Junior Kindergarten
The goals of Compass SchoolHouse's Junior Kindergarten focus on fostering a love of learning as well as on the development of positive school experiences. As children form friendships with new classmates and teachers, they make great strides in their social-emotional development, while also being exposed to the CSH Character Development Program and its emphasis on Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Kindness, and Perseverance (ALWAYS keep trying). Through age appropriate learning activities, children's cognitive growth is also encouraged and supported.
Our Junior Kindergarten curriculum is designed for Kindergarten readiness based on developmentally appropriate practice and includes the following learning areas:
- Physical Development
- Social and Emotional Development
- Music
- Art
- Language Arts
- Math
- Social Studies
- Science
Child must be 4 years old by October 1st.
The Pals Program serves as an extended day option for our Junior Kindergarten students. Pals is a literacy-based program that includes lunch and socialization time. Throughout the year, students create several books as a class, exposing them to concepts such as author, illustrator, characters, setting, plot, and sentence structure. Students also have personal journals that encourage creativity and story recollection skills as they freely draw, write, cut, and paste. To deepen vocabulary and linguistic skills and enhance mental organization, we connect stories to activities that are fun for young children such as cooking, scientific experiments, sketching, and engineering projects!
Pals Program
Pals is offered 3 days per week in both the mornings and afternoons, depending on when your child's Junior K class is.
Students enrolled in an AM Junior Kindergarten class may extend their days on the following afternoons:
Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday
OR
Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday
Students enrolled in a PM Junior Kindergarten class may extend their days on the following mornings:
Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday

An optional beginning/end of day time of ‘structure with flexibility’ including gross and fine motor activities in a relaxed environment. Available Monday through Friday, choose the days that work with your schedule.
Enrichment:
9:45a - 12:30p (includes lunch)
11:45a - 2:30p (includes lunch)
Students come together in small groups to focus on specific topics such as Science, Theatre Arts, Music, Movement, Engineering, and more! Available on non-Pals days. Sign up per session.
